Not much pure maths, no. I did some Graph Theory (Maths subject) because I
ran out of Computer Science subjects though.

The thing is, I did do compiler-writing. And recursive descent is what we
were taught, and you kept a list of all the tokens that you were expecting
to come, and if one of them didn't come, you reported an error. You could
dynamically add and drop expected tokens.
