Unfortunately, when you remove the leading spaces in something like 
that, it throws the entire thing out of whack.

If the border wasn't there, the leading spaces on Katakana "A" (ah) 
would all all collapse to the left margin, bringing anything to the 
right of them along with them. 
Worse then a line wrap in the wrong place, which can be figured out 
and undone. 

By the way... It's Japanese.
