Interesting.... I was wondering if Maximus's built in ANSI (superset of
VT-100 video) escape sequences would cause any problems....

Are the TCP/IP ports set up for 8 bit clear or using 7 bit with various
terminal control codes interpreted? If the you run the TCP/IP ports as the
telnet standard with only 7 bits and interpretation, then there are some
VT-100 escape sequences that *will* lock up the communication path. Gets
back to the old flow control issues, among other things. From memory,
control-s stops traffic while control-q starts traffic. Also (from
memory), since Max is setup to handle various modems, including flow
control issues, you may need to look at the "modem" or
"serial port" settings, or with how you are openinging up the
TCP/IP socket. For TCP/IP connections we should be able to turn off the
software and probably also turn off the hardware flow control stuff in
Maximus. For the TCP/IP socket, I believe you will want an 8 bit clear
channel, not the telnet interpreted channel. There may be some additional
IO CTL functions also needing to be called after opening the TCP/IP socket
to get this working smoothly. [I assume we are running TCP and not UDP
over IP.] This would also go along with the time out error message I saw
one person report. After the control-s, Max would sit arround until the
interactive time limit has hit and then give the various time out warnings,
(which the user would not see due to the flow control) and then time out
and disconnect. On the surface, the error I've seen described sounds like
this is a possiblity. Of course, I could be off on a wild goose chase.....
Let's see.... what was that program I used to use to dump the raw TCP/IP
data for debugging TCP/IP connections?.... Hmmmm..... It's been a
while....

Is max being run as a shell under a version of getty? If so, there may be
some default "terminal" characteristics that need to be changed.

Take care.....
