     Did you try it?  You can use Search & Replace to
find, say, the Und On code and replace it with the
Italc On code, but then everything from then on is
italics because the Und Off code is gone, too, and you
can't replace it.
     I wrote the following WPDOS6.1 macro to replace
Underline with Italics, then I found the MOD_ATRB.WPM
that shipped with 6.1 - see my next message to
Hill Kaplan.
