To clarify, the recent bugfix for Squish applies *only* to the UNIX version.
 
You can get Squish from maximus.sourceforge.net; it is included with the
Maximus distribution. Either grab the CVS tree now, or wait until I tag and
release Maximus3_03b if you want the bug fixes. 
 
Squish seems to be fairly stable under UNIX but this should still be
considered a very alpha release.

Peter has agreed to release SqaFix under the GPL. Once I have the code, I
will be integrating it into the Maximus source tree.
 
As for a GUI -- I'm not gonna write one, can't stand the damn things. :)
But if somebody else wants to step up to the bar, they're more than welcome
to.
 
And file tickers.. Hmm. Haven't really given that any thought, when I last
used Fidonet the filebone was still a relatively new thing.
