If it's a cable problem, the "packet receive buffers" parameter on the
server
should climb rapidly just before the outage.   Set the maximum packet
receive buffers
to a large value (say 2000).   If the Monitor screen shows the server ever
USING this
amount, then there's some kind of NIC or cable fault.
You have any equipment that can monitor for ring beaconing?
