It's not so much the power supply, but the track alignment, and more
importantly the signalling. There simply isn't enough braking distance built
into the current four-aspect sysytem to allow for enough braking distance at
speeds above 100mph on South-Eastern lines. Even if (hypothetically) they

to alter signalling, this would reduce line capactiy for ordinary domestic
trains. That, and the track alignment is why we need a dedicated link. It
