You should be able to just go to the OPEN command and read the DWG file 
directly.  R12 and R13 can both read older files without any problems here.
Don't try anything fancy - just open the DWG as normal.  If this does not 
work then tell your dealer this and ask him to contact Autodesk to get 
answers for you - he has a 1-800 number so it won't cost him a nickel! (I 
know because I am a dealer too - here in Canada).  Good luck.
