From: "Bob May" To: "atmlist" Reply-To: "Bob May" There are small motors in the surplus places that will do fine. The ones you want are the Escap and other instrument motors with a gearbox on them. These are also known as coreless motors as the armature is a coreless design that reduces the inertia of the motor. The voltage is somewhat unimportant as the power supply can be adjusted to fit. Even 24v motors are useful if you ever find any as you will not be running them at full speed. Finding gear ratios in the hundreds will be a bit more difficult but they are out there. Another version of motors are the ones used to turn pots. If you find an ad for a motorized pot then the motor there is good for doing focusing work and other such things. I use them for adjusting the mirror stand so that I don't have to walk down to the other end of the testing bench and upset the air between.
