Precisly there is, but no, no storage for the admin/user. There must be some
kind of BIOS ROM, that can handle the SDcard and continue the boot process from
there. That matches your "not very much internal storage". ;)

Well, the Raspberry Pi is in it's third? generation now. Check out Wikipedia
for a modell overview. And i'm pretty sure that it will be free in any case and
you will get additional money for its use. Why? Take a look at the power
consumtion of your 12+ years old hardware and compare it with the power usage
of the raspi. The raspi would save your money.
