There is nothing unique about the Couriers 256 byte frames.
 
Many Rockwells and other brands have 256 bytes and SREJ.
 
In fact, combined with the Couriers small 2048 byte V.42bis dictionary size
(compared to 8192 bytes),  there is really nothing great about the 
Courier at all.
