Hi Guy--
    David is incorrect in his remark about not skipping COM numbers.
Here are the relevant entries from my CONFIG.SYS file. My modem is on
COM2, and COM1 is usually unused. I have only the two COM ports
installed on my system:
   DEVICE=D:\SIO\SIO.SYS (com4, internet:2e8, none:3)
   DEVICE=D:\SIO\VSIO.SYS
    Since I do not use a DOS communications program, I'm not sure why I
left the VSIO device driver in the file! In any case, you do not have
to specify the characteristics of COM1 and COM2, unless you wish to set
a maximum DTE rate (thus making any DTE rate set in your communications
program inoperative). SIO will find the addresses and IRQs for them.
What does SIO report during the boot?
    In your entries, you have set the IRQ for the DOS version of your
virtual port (vmodem) as IRQ 4 (none:4). What IRQ is your Telex program
looking for? The DOS "standard" IRQ for COM4 is IRQ 3, as shown in the
example in the vmodem manual.
