This:
LP> The Chronicle's editors note they believe there may be some
LP> political overtones to my office's involvement in closing down this
LP> illegal club, but again they choose to overlook one key point: Even
LP> if the sale of medicinal marijuana were legal in this state (which
LP> it isn't), the activities at the Cannabis Buyers' Club, with its
LP> sales to minors and people who were not sick, would continue to be
LP> illegal.
LP> DANIEL E. LUNGREN
with the appended comment:
LP> Comment: Constitutional democracy is about government by and for
LP> "We the People." The citizens of San Francisco, voted by an 80%
LP> landslide to pass Prop. P which instructed their police to not
LP> arrest people who used marijuana for medical purposes.
LP> The raid on the San Francisco Buyer's Club was done behind the backs
LP> of the elected officals who support medical marijuana in San
LP> Francisco. As for becoming like the "Soviet Union or a banana
LP> republic," that's exactly what is so disturbing about this forced
LP> entry of 100 heavily armed thugs into the Buyer's Club to steal
LP> medicine from AIDS and cancer patients.
I would be very interested, however, in hearing some kind of rebuttal to
the point he makes so clearly. Personally, I'm a Libertarian about such
things, but if they really did occur with any frequency, especially
in today's political climate, I'd have to say it was a case of "asking
for it" in the first degree. Is there any truth at all in his claims?
There's a kind of self-serving habitual dishonesty in the official
pronouncements of *The Authorities*, calling seventeen-year-old thugs
"children" if it will have shock-value with the Christians, and such.
I wonder what the truth is here? Anybody know?
