In my neighborhood it's usually "Step back from the door and put your
hands where I can see them" or, on one occasion, "Show me a badge and
an empty hand or I'm gonna need a new door...." (We'd been having a
problem with imitation cops doing invasion robberies in the wee
smalls, so the latter was accompanied by a 12-gauge being racked
hard... when I opened the door no one was there....)
Wish I could get the landlord to fix the landing light....
