Sorry, dont quite follow. I know the modem icon has diagnostics, however to
change what com port to connect the mode to you click on properties, then
up comes a window with the following:
FC> connect the modem to, so under this I have:
 FC> com1
 FC> com2
 FC> com2

SL> Hmm, is your modem internal?

Yes it is.

SL> If you modem is internal, disable COM2 on the serial card (or in the
SL> BIOS for new systems) and install the modem drivers (PnP modems will
SL> automagically tell you what to do).

Yes this has all been done. I recently took the thing apart and discovered
that the di**head who put it together, (calls himself a technician ;) ),
stuck the modem in the bottom slot of the tower, above it was the soundcard
the boards were almost touching as the modem has another circuit piggy
backed on it like a sandwich, so that seems to be what has been causing my
problems.

Seems this fixed the modem troubles, however I still have two com2's under
modem properties. Have received mail from someone who has exactly the same
thing on his system, he even has two com1's on top of that and says he's
seen it on many many systems, doesnt seem to be harming the communication
side, however it shits me why it does it.

Thanks for replying.
