That can be a problem in the colder regions like MD or VA, but not a
problem in warm places like CA or TX. I still have a few yellow coiled
hoses from my shop in CA. They last a long time if they're not abused by
dogs...

Cold weather.

That happens to humans too if you allow the end coil springs to work away,
allowing the plastic to square up and it will crack. If you're lucky
they'll leak enough to warn you before they go.
