No it doesn't.  It only sets up the geometry, partitions, types, etc. 
Formatting is a different can of worms.

I haven't bothered with swap for awhile now.  If I put gcc on the 486 that
needs swap due to the lack of ramspace required by some large source, such
as glibc.  Otherwise it is just wasted disk space so I don't bother
anymore.  I've now got a different machine that is able to compile for
everything and it has more ramspace then it knows what to do with.  As for
disks I've got many options, including externals, so I am not too worried
about that.  It has taken awhile to reach this point but it was well worth
the time and effort.
