Hi Sandra,
SP> Soil ain't just dirt, y'know. :-)
This much I do know. :-) I decided to try the match thing anyway on
half my pepper plants. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
SP> As for soil pH, that varies from place to place and even from month
SP> to month in the same garden, but overall, you should learn the
SP> general range for your neighbourhood. The quickest way is to phone
SP> an extension agent (or ask your neighbours). They usually know. But
I probably should check my soil again. I did it years ago through our
extension and added lime at their recommendation. Since then I've added
wood ashes for tilth, and mostly grass clippings and other composted
yard waste. I have no special plan for regular feeding except for
12-12-12 broadcast on the surface and tilled in before planting in the
spring.
SP> A soil test kit removes any doubts and gives you a basis for
SP> starting a beneficial soil amendment program.
I hear ya. :-) I'll ask about these kits at the nursery and see what's
involved.
SP> Wanna good recipe for making dirt? :-)
Yeah, if it's not a lot of work. I usually just throw the yard waste in
a pile and let nature take its course over time.
Leah
