From: "Bob May" To: "atmlist" Reply-To: "Bob May" The Dall-Kirkham is a nice design only in that it is relatively easy to build. I'd rather do a Gregorian design than a Dall-Kirkham as the aberrations will be less. The decision to do a Naysmith design is a good one and will decouple the focal plane from the need to get behind the primary, thus allowing somewhat lower magnifications without the larger secondaries needed. You do still run into the problem of the tertiary starting to mask off the secondary obstruction in the primary. The meter size is a very large instrument (look at how big the Yard Scope is and you will understand) and you will probably quickly find a piece of land up in the mountains where you can put an observatory and keep the scope there permanently.
