I am considering purchasing a new laptop, for travel, and wanted to know how 
easy/difficult it was to install linux on one.
 
Specifically, I have found pretty decent deals on used laptops from Compaq
(EVO N610C), HP (NC6000), and Dell (Latitude D600).  Does anyone have
experience in getting linux to run on one of these?  Are there any brands
of laptop that I should particularly avoid?
 
Also, are there any distros that are specifically tailored for installation
on a laptop?  Are there any based on Debian, which I am most familiar/
comfortable with?
 
Any other tips regarding laptops would be appreciated.  Thanks!
