-> At work we have a hundred plus workstations, all running NT v3.51.
-> Unfortunately, they also have only 16 MB's ram.
Can you say crippled. :)
-> All are on a tcpip & novell network, running a two tier client server
app
-> over a WAN, plus other apps.
-> What I need are references I can use for justification for an upgrade
to 32
-> MB's for each one. Haven't had a chance to check the microsoft site,
where I
-> presume there would be such info; but besides there, where could I find
such
-> info?
Here's your reference. Do some application benchmarks, timed sorts,
lookups, whatever normally would swap to virtual memory on your current
systems as a standard. Then add 16Mb for 32 or better yet load one to
64Mb and test anything that would have normally went to virtual memory.
Your real justification should be in man hours saved because that's what
nails the bean counters.
For a written reference however.. MCSE Documentation for "NT Workstation
Study Guide" or "NT Server Study Guide" should be all the docs you need.
Both state that you should have 24 minimum (recommended), 32 better, 64
best, RAM configs.
On anyones software now there is a minimum and for NT WS 12 to 16 is the
minimum for NT. Recommended however is different than minimum.
