Not according to Dr. James Milam of the Milam Recovery Program in
Seattle.  Dr. Milam began modern treatment for alcoholism in this state
several years ago with his theories and has sparked research which has
found genetic reasons why people drink.
His research indicates that alcoholism is most severe in cultures who
have had it the shortest length of time, such as the American Indian.
The Scandinavian nations have done 40 years of research using identical
twins that were separated at birth, grew up to become alcoholics no
matter or how they were raised.
Russia sent her scientists over here to study our methods after the
first contingent of American Alcoholics from A.A. went there around the
time we bombed Kadafi in North Africa.  They were treated with a lot of
respect and guarded as well as the Russian crown jewels.....in the
Kremlin in a time of potential trouble.
Enviorment doesn't play as much importance in the use of alcohol and/or
other drugs by those who are genetically at risk as does teaching them
how to achieve desired changes in brain chemistry without drugs.
