I was.  Trick memory, academically gifted, and totally immune to test 
pressure.  They were after pounding on me because I had ALREADY 
shamed them.  "What do you mean, the test was too hard?  Clayton got 
all 75 questions right AND wrote a 3-page answer to the essay, and I 
know he didn't even study.  You could have done just as well if you'd 
bothered to try."


Different KINDS of intelligence... some of these guys were plenty 
bright and would have torn up a vo-tech curriculum, but all that the 
school offered was a basic High School Pre-College one, and it just 
wasn't right for them, so they were out of their depth, in the wrong 
field, and bored.  And some of the teachers weren't the best, so if 
they weren't already interested they were NOT gonna get their fires 
lit.  I just love history, civics, that sort of thing.  I took one 
shop class and did well enough but didn't enjoy it much at all... but 
I had options, they didn't, so...

Violence WAS their last resort.
