~> EC> -> I don't claim to be an oilman, but I do know British Petroleum, if ~> EC> -> they were a "person" like the Supreme Court said ~> EC> When did it say that? ~> A corporation is an 'artificial person' under the laws in this country. ~> Whether the Supremes have ruled on that concept I've no idea. It was a test. I wanted to see if he would parrot the mistake others made in the thread on the "Citizens United" case. There were 19th century court cases on the subject. They applied the 14th amendment protections to corporations. But when the "Citizens United" case came up in the echo earlier this year several people gave the robotic response of "corporations are not persons." It never dawned on them that the word "person" is not used in the free speech protections of the first amendment, and the case was a free speech case. But Sauer had the good sense to realize that he was in over his head, and he just walked away from his thread. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5a* Origin: FidoTel & QWK on the Web! www.fidotel.com (1:124/311) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 550 848 @PATH: 124/311 140/1 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
