The cable modem looks like a network interface card to your system. Plugging
a 100MB NIC into my system won't do any good to me since the cable modems
being tested around here are equivalent to a 10MB NIC. Since writing the
above, I have learned that there are other cable modems which have a NIC
interface capable of speeds over 10MB though none of the web pages I hit
claimed that their cable modems are capable of a sustained rate even close to
10MB.
