Hey Andy! Apr 13 16:24 07, Andy Ball wrote to Maurice Kinal: AB> Yes, but what you're writing to the MBR is a partition map and AB> perhaps a boot sector. Nothing to do with a disk's geometry AB> (theoretical number of cylinders, heads and sectors per track). I think I get what you mean. I haven't looked lately at a mbr and the exact information written there in quite some time. I am going to have to do that soon to refresh my memory as to the exact info and where. I do know that everything is in the zero block and last time I checked was 512 bytes. Also I recall that activating more then one partition as bootable can confuse the bios but I haven't checked that lately either. It hasn't been an issue lately but it used to be when I first started using linux (actually lilo) and wanted to sucker a bios into using a drive it couldn't get a grip on. I had to do a bunch a faking until lilo could grab ahold of the drive and boot up a kernel that could fix everything. What a hassel that was! It did work though but haven't had to do anything like that since those days so it really hasn't been an issue. I think I need to refresh myself on all this just in case I need to know again.
