Years ago Sears came out with a line of cheap tools. The screw
drivers had bright orange handles. They were well made and
guaranteed. When I first saw them I bought the screwdrivers,
mostly we would lose them far more often than break them. There
were pits we weren't willing to dredge for lost tools, and if
they rolled under a machine, unless you saw where it went, you
might not find it.
Or if you left it in a panel ... which sometimes happened.
When I forst saw them I thought, who would buy them? Those
orange handles screamed cheap tools, and who want's to be known
for buying cheap tools? Then I saw a couple in the plant, and
realized, those orange handles screamed advertising. Everyone
sees them and gets the idea to look for them.
I believe Sears dropped them long ago, probably because they
cost them too many sales of their better tools.
