Absolutely nothing wrong with that as far as I am concerned.

So far it doesn't need to do more but if it did I'd still be inclined to use c.
 As it turns out gcc has been around since before I started with linux and I am
confident it will be around for longer than I care to consider what the future
might hold for me.  In the meantime I am having fun with this including any
learning that happens.  ;-)

I noticed.  It is your choice to make and there happens to be a compiler handy
that works.
