Yeah, you know something's NQR at Microsoft when they're getting this desperate
for people to upgrade.
I suspect they don't want another repeat of where they ended up supporting XP
for far longer than they wanted to, but with Windows 7. I think it's inevitable
they will have to extend Windows 7 support at some point, though. Heck, there
are still people running XP.
I made a point of running GWX Control Panel on the Windows 7 PCs and VMs I have
just to ensure they weren't going to start downloading the Windows 10 installer
without my consent. Partly because I don't want them running Windows 10, but
also because of the excessive bandwidth use.
I'm hoping this sort of shifty behaviour will stop when their free upgrade to
Windows 10 offer expires, but who knows.
Can you imagine the uproar if a Linux distro did the same thing. ;-)
