As y'all know, part of what I do is computers... tutoring, repairs,
installation, etc.

During the 10th Annual Wilton Arts & Film Festival (on May 17th,
beautiful day unlike last year) one of my customers approached me and said
she wanted to get anti-virus installed on her machine... I advised her to
get Norton's, and told her to give me a call when she got it.

So anyway, I went over there this morning... expected to only be there a
half hour, 45 minutes at most. Instead I was there for two hours. She's got
a generic
Gateway, about 4 years old now... and one of the things that Gateway had
pre-installed on the machine was "Go Back", a system recovery
application. So anyway, I go to install Norton's and I get a message saying
that "Go Back" needed to be disabled; it even gave precise
instructions how. So I rebooted and disabled Go Back... and sat and waited,
and waited, and waited...

Instead of just disabling - like any other program would have done - Go Back had
to retrace its entire history before it would disable itself... it took 50 minutes.

Oy bleedin' vey.

Finally got Norton's installed, updated, scheduled, and showed her what she
needed to do - very little, as most of Norton's is automated these days,
even the update feature.

What the hell... it's been raining for the past week, so there was nothing
else really to do...
