I think there was a switch you could flip that made lo-res render as
if it were a hi-res image with order bits set to 0 for everything
(e.g. all purple and green).  I don't have the ability to test that
out at the moment though.  I don't ever recall getting lo-res to look
B&W on a TV set on my //e.
