No rush at this end. I am still working out a few issues wrt 486 and my
workstation and have just booted up to the latest 64-bit ttylinux on my
workstation where I am currently responding to this message. I am hoping
to make this the basis of all points working off the worldly connected 486.
This particular point is off a different server in NYS so it needs to do
things a tad differently and thus am needing to redo things based on the
last working setup. I'll get there yet. :-)

I am right about ttylinux. However I have deviated from what the master
site says is needed since I do things a tad differently from the norm, even
with ttylinux. Having said that, it is a GREAT base for 486's!!! The one
here is more or less following standard operating procedures but had to add
a few packages to bring it into sync with the rest of the network here.

That is known as 'user friendliness'. They can keep it.

Not too bad all things considered. Been hurting quite a bit more then
usual but am grinning and bearing it ... so far. The weather isn't helping
any. I'd complain but it doesn't do any good so I won't.

Not an issue with me. I know we are doing the right thing from both our
perspectives. You'll see when you're ready.

WC> Thanks again and write about what you are doing with Linux.

See above. It is getting quite interesting. Even got stinkin' email
working with my evil, demented plan. :-)

Still need to take care of mplayer and mencoder but that shouldn't be a
problem. I've done it before so I know it'll work out great. Decided to
try mounting a usb flash disk partition on /usr/local on the ramdisk to
keep it under 16M and that way the more bloated apps and libs will have a
new home. Am testing the Fido stuff on there which must work since I
wouldn't be responding to this if it didn't.

Slackware is the best. A tad bloated for my evil, demented plan though
which is why I am using ttylinux. It was Slackware that got me to this
stage of the game so you're following a very good path for sure. No doubt
about that.

Life is good,
Maurice
