I still have one of those that I use from time to time. It has a great AM
band section, but the newer digital SW receivers are a lot easier to tune and
are a lot more stable too!
Which reminds me, at one time Lafayette sold a tunable VHF high band receiver
- it tuned with a dial! Talk about having a hard time finding stations! All
it was really good for was the weather channels because you could tell when
you were drifting off and swing it back on channel. If you drifted off a
channel that only had sporadic traffic you were out of luck.
I added a crystal filter to the IF of mine. Otherwise the IF was nearly as
wide as a broadcast FM band radio. You could hear as many as 5 or more
channels at once!
