Yes. It forces HDMI output. It stops jack (analog) output.

amixer cget numid=3 gets mixer value
amixer cset numid=3 VALUE sets mixer value to VALUE
where VALUE=0 -> auto
VALUE=1 -> analog
VALUE=2 -> hdmi

What 39977 means, sorry, I have no idea.

Sets audio to Auto, Analog or HDMI
