Once apon a time Jeff Angus said, 'Win95' to Frank Croft...

Hi Jeff, I have the same problem as Frank, except I also have two COM1's
listed, as well as two COM2's :)

JA> In the Modem properties dialog there are two tabs -- "General" and
JA> "Diagnostics". If there are two modems installed under the General
JA> tab, then the ports listed are com1 com2 com2, just as you have above.

Nope, only one modem listed.

JA> Do you, or have you had at some stage, two modems installed under
JA> the General tab? If there are not two installed now then it appears as
JA> if Win95 is somehow retaining the info' from a past dual install.

Nope, never have had two modems installed at once.

JA> It may be also worth checking the registry with REGEDIT.EXE in the
JA> Windows directory. Using Regedit move down the directories:-
 JA> Mycomputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\devicemap\Serialcomm and check
JA> that there should be three entrees as below:-

 JA> Name Data
JA> [ab] (Default) (value not set)
 JA> [ab] COM1 "COM1"
 JA> [ab] COM2 "COM2"

Just looked, and it only lists a single COM1 and a single COM2 exactly as
you say.

FC> This has been driving me daisy, I have removed modem, com2
FC> port that I can, reinstalled everything,

JA> Sounds like it's left an "image" of some sort in the registry?

Thats what I thought, but I have scanned the entire registry, and cant find
any reason for it.

Regards,
Simon
