ConnectBot works well to connect to Linux (and others) servers over SSH. On a
phone, half the screen is taken up by the onscreen keyboard. On a tablet it's
not as bad. Using an external (USB or Bluetooth) keyboard can help, especially
since it'll make the onscreen keyboard disappear. OTOH, the Ctrl key on Android
doesn't work the same as on Windows & Linux, unfortunately.
