Back when the amount of the support was being determined it amazed
me how it was arrived at. I know there is a formula that is used and I
can understand that. What I couldn't understand is where they got their
figures that the formula was applied to. The figures didn't come close
to reflecting my income at the time. Net, gross, or otherwise. My proof
of income at the time was completely ignored.
I know it sounds like I am simply whining and complaining. Maybe
to some degree that is true. But it seems that the process is flawed.
Like the 1st amendment the government is so afraid of doing anything that
might be construed as hindering the law that they fail to fix obvious
flaws. The goal of child support should IMHO be to support and provide
for the child. Is that not it's purpose? Instead it is used as a gift
to the custodial parent to spend as they see fit. Whether the child
actually benefits from the child support is optional and purely at the
discression of the person receiving the support.
