| subject: | MODEM Problems? |
Gidday Steve
SH> I have mutliline Ezycom BBS. A few times now the when users
SH> logon, Ezycom answers the phone, but it goes straight to dial
SH> tone before the remote modem seems to initiate. (they then have to
SH> wait until the modem times-out and resets itself).
Sounds to me like the modem is answering, hanging up, then picking up
the line again in a short amount of time, hence the dialtone instead
of remote modem.
SH> Could this be Ezycom? As the modems were working fine before and
SH> this rarely happened.
It's certainly not Ezycom. I would tend to suggest that something has
changed with respect to your modems.
SH> Does anyone have a good INIT string for Ezycom, or is the default
SH> or ATZ recommended?
Depends entirely on what make and model of modem you have. I would not
recommend ATZ. I always start afresh with AT&F then the necessary
commands following to alter it from the default settings.
The point to this is that I am not relying on NVRAM since batteries go
flat.
A good way to set your modems up would be to start your comms
proggy then type AT&F then AT&V. Note what settings need to be changed
by referring to your manual and incorporate those into your init
string... eg AT&F&C1&D2S0=0|. Don't use that string as it may not be
suited to your modem. Then you enter the string into Ezycom.
