Yes, I couldn't see why X wouldn't work, if you had a server handy. Installing
one on the local machine would be the most convenient.

Sounds like a work in progress. Give it a year or two and it will probably be

I'm sure someone will find a way. ;) Sounds like a ploy to force the use of
Microsoft servers. Afterall, if someone could setup a LAMP stack or similar on
a Windows 10 box, there goes another sale of Windows Server. ;) And longer
term, such an admin will one day say "Hey, I might as well use Linux", and
Microsoft does lose another customer. Yes, I can see why they might firewall
off incoming connections. Guess they're using some form of stateful firewall.
