Hey andrew!

ac> Android releases from Google don't provide bash in the base
 ac> system.

I saw that when researching Andoid last night. The terninal looked okay but
reading the existing shell's builtins left me wanting that is for sure. Mind
you it could be filled in if and when needed, possibly with Go.

ac> You'll also find a lot of other GNU utilities you take for granted
ac> are missing, like grep, less, etc.

I didn't get that far but now that you mention it I'd have some real issues
with an OS that didn't provide likewise apps to grep and probably less given
the small amount of real estate provided by the usual displays on those devices
(tablets and especially smart phones). UTF-8 support is good from what I read
on one site.

ac> install something like Termux to provide the missing GNU stuff.

I read one of the busybox developers managed to get busybox working on an
Android device so that would probably be the way to go.

So far my instinct would be to go with a Rasberrypi or the like device as they
tend to think more along the same line as I do at what constitites a linux
system than Google does. If I did make the plunge I am sure that is what I'd
do and then would need to come up with an arm based version of what I have
currently going on the boxes here. I call it a bastardized
Slackware-Linux-From-Scratch-ish dealie that doesn't require a GUI and hasn't
had one for a number of years now.

I've gotten lazy in my old age. I still enjoy messing with bash for some
strange reason.

Life is good,
Maurice

... Don't cry for me I have vi.
