Hello, Wes.

Replying to a message of Wes Garland to Sean Dennis:

 WG> Wow, dude, you're ancient! :)

Shh. :P I know there's truly ancient ones in Fidonet.

WG> I my first login was in 1985; my school had an Apple ][e with a 300

My first BBS login was... 1983... running on... oh, man, trying to
remember... it was... TRS-80 Model 1, I think... custom written.

 WG> I started BBSing full time in 1987 when I got a VIC-1600 300 bps modem

I didn't start getting completely back into BBSing until 1996 (there was a
five year hiatus while I was in Idaho, no electricity where I was at). I'd
actually gotten back into it by accident; there was a sysop that noticed
that I was the only other shell account user on the ISP I was using in
Texas (the account was a gift from my commanding officer). We started
talking and he then started talking about my opening my own BBS.

(Some of you might remember him: he's Scott McNay - ex 1:395/11 and a
co-developer of RBBS. Scott's still around, but not active in BBSing
anymore.)

That's when I met Art Stark who told me about the virtues of running a BBS
under OS/2 (heh, it's been nearly eight years since then and I'm still
figuring out OS/2 :)... and I became a BinkleyTerm/Squish fan for life...
and an OS/2 one too.

 WG> Anyhow, In '88 I bought a 1200 bps modem on sale -- only $149 -- and
WG> since it had auto-answer, I begged my parents to let me have another
WG> phone line (549-2351 -- I still remember the number! -- it was pulse
WG> only to save $2/mo) and up went my board.

My BBS number is 618-529-9296 (the joys of distinctive ring)... and one of
the prefixes here is 549 also.

WG> Took it down in '94, I think (switched to PC Board in '93), when I
WG> lost interested in the BBS world.

There's been several times that I've lost interest... everyone knows about
my BBS software switching, but it takes me a long time to learn what I
like. I've run nearly everything under the sun, but I came back to Maximus
(hey, third time's a charm!) after I studied the docs closely and now with
the active work going on...

WG> It'll be back again soon, though. I got my old node number back and
 WG> everything. :)

Bwhahah... another sucker is born... erm, wait, I didn't say that out loud, did I?

Later,
Sean
