Yoo-Hoo, All!!
It's been quite a while since I've contributed to this Fido conference,
but we just returned from 7 days at WDW. The first 3 nit es were at the
DVC Old Key West, and the last three were at Disney's new Boardwalk
Villa's.
Opening night was last Sunday, and we checked in Monday night. We were
only able to get a studio vs. a 1-bedroom, but it was still very nice.
Due to making plans so late, we were not able to get a view
overlooking the Boardwalk, however our Luna Park(?) view was just about
as good overlooking the pool and off in the distance, we could see Tower
of Terror. Just down the hallway from us, the rooms had a view of
Spaceship Earth and Imagination.
Tuesday night, we ate at Spoodles, where the kids got to design and make
their own pizzas. The fare is Mediterranean and the concept is sharing.
The only downside was that the air conditioning went out on the entire
left half of the complex on the BW, and although the wood stove/oven
was neat, it sure added to the overall heat!!
The kids swam in the main pool (there are 3) and rode down a winding
200' slide called The Keester Coaster. There was also a glitch there,
too. Just prior to opening, they determined that anyone over a certain
weight/mass might come too close to the upper section on the lower
section of curves, so until the new portion of the curve was
manufactured and installed, only people 5' and under were allowed to
ride. My oldest, Kaitlyn, made it by about 1/4". The kids are allowed
to were the Disney PFD (life jackets) AND also go down the slide. It
seems to me at Y&B, if they wore a PFD, they couldn't do the slide - go
figger!
This was not our time of choice to visit WDW, and the crowds and the
heat were intense!! We carefully chose out times and rides and made
sure we did not overdo! We did all 3 parks, plus LBV and are headed
back relaxed.
We walked by 20K and saw that there was some activity going on -
(re)opening might be coming along as I think I read.
We dined at the new Chef Mickey's and were not disappointed. We also
did a character breakfast at the Crystal Palace and had an equally good
time. Last night we finished off the stay with dinner (clambake) at
Cape May and then walked back over to the BW, where we rented a (double)
tandem bicycle, and made the large circle around the BW, by Epcot,
Swan/Dolphin, Yacht & Beach and then back to the BW. It was a lot of
fun, but wished all the kids would have peddled up the hills by the
International Gateway. There were two types of Surrey's, 2 and 4
seaters. Both had small carriers in front for small kids, so a family
of 6 could make the journey.
They also had some of the original basket type of carts that came from
the Boardwalk in NJ. I remember in the late 50's going with my parents
and being pushed down the BW in one of these strolling carts. The only
difference at the WDW BW, you rent it - you push it!!  (-;
The overall mood of the BW was busy and bustling. ESPN had done a grand
opening of their sports bar/restaurant last Sunday. They were touting
over 50 sport celebs, but with the 90F plus temperature, I think most
of them left the day we were checking in.
We peeked around behind at the new World of Motion which is under
construction and rode Energy, Horizons, Living Seas and after
Imagination, met up with our old friends, Dreamfinder and Figment. The
same CM has been in character for 13 years, and we have know him for
probably 10. My 6 year old, Ethan and I chatted with him for about 20
minutes yesterday. We have made a tradition of visiting him since Ethan
was born, and have added a picture of the 4 of us to our collection.
That's all for now, were are headed down for final approach.
