My wife and I have taken in abused birds over the years, and have worked
with them to return them to more of a normal state. One that comes to mind is
a cockateil that was in a house where when it started to make any noise, the
owner would throw empty beer cans at its cage to shut it up. Now we are
talking about feather plucking etc. - a very neurotic bird. The teil after
THREE years of care and attention, with a lot of love and carefully handling
thrown in is almost back to what a normal bird would act like. I guess what I
am saying is that if you get a bird that has problems - it takes time to
bring it around. If you do not have that time, Do not get it. Good Luck
