That's in part because Samba most often runs on multiuser systems. =
Getting Samba to the level of sharing everyone's home dir's is the =
default setting (on most linux'es I've known) & there's a bunch of GUIs
= tool to help share other folders (e.g. SWAT). Yes you have to know if =
you've got a PDC & you want that to do authentication etc. Maybe it's =
coz I've been running smb on linux for a long while now but it isn't = that
hard on say Mandrake 9. Certainly in terms of being an SMB client = using
something like LinNeighborhood makes SMB Client stuff easy.=20

More FUD and lies Mike. How would you know what you claim =
(overlooking that it is false)?

If the Samba folks can't make their stuff work as easily as Windows =
(or even MS-DOS) why can't you acknowldge that they have only themselves = to blame?

Because Windows networking is a tangle of proprietary protocols,
half-baked code, and gawd-awful spaghetti code. The Samba team is
one of the folk trying to get Microsoft to open up their protocols.

Bottom line: Micorosft does not want Samba to "just work".
