I've heard of that being done.  Beats me why given the inferior apps on any
version of Windows.

Yes.  It'll reformat the partition(s).

That will be a problem.  You probably could still use it as long as there
aren't any physical problems with the drive (scratches, dust, etc.) or too
many bad blocks.  You won't be able to boot it if the mbr is indeed
screwed.
