>Now I'm talking erotica... not pornography---though, of course, I've heard
that the difference between the two is simply the lighting. :-)

I've heard that it's porn when men write it and erotica when women write it=
, but I
digress. This is a rather touchy topic. I can write a sex scene. I've
wr= itten enough
of them in other stories (especially the rock band stories I wrote in the 7= 0's and
80's, the current non-Trek story I'm writing has a couple too), but never i= n Trek.
I'm almost with Garry in showing the leadup to a possible erotic scene, and=
 then
leaving the rest to the imagination. I'd worry that any attempt to write
t= he actual
scene would degenerate into porn. I've read Joe's "The Nature of the Beast=
," and
though the sex scene in question was vital to the story, it was also in the=
 "porn"
zone in my mind (and my boundary might vary from others). I don't think I c= ould
write a similar scene with the Athena characters. I would have a tendency = to
get too graphic, and that simply would not fit in with the established feel=
 of the
stories. Another consideration is that I basically follow the same limits
= as one would
see on television. If the scene couldn't be shown on television, it's
unli= kely to appear
in an "Athena" story.

This topic brings to mind an "Athena" story that I've plotted but
not yet w= ritten, where
Thorpe and Matsubara do get intimate. It'll become very obvious in subsequ= ent
stories that they do in fact have sex, but in the story in question,
"Pursu= it or
Capture," I'm still deciding in how far I should go in describing what
is h= appening, or
in Garry's terms, at what point do I draw the curtains (or close the door,
= in this case).
I probably won't know until I actually write the scene, but no doubt I'll
b= e thinking
about it and fretting over it.
