MS have a flexible universal solution for Indic languages. It's a complex
issue we touched on recently. The MS approach is to put support in the OS
for other developers to use as they wish. I don't see them porting
Uniscribe to Linux (more probably to 'X') and allowing all and sundry to
exploit it.
The Indians have what they need right now on Windows, it may be that they
cannot afford it; that's a different equation.
It will be extremely interesting to see whether the 'community' can do some
real software engineering in this area.
