DC>> You know I'll only do that completely if all my DOS apps move
 DC>> to that format!

ml>> hehe, yeah yeah... what i meant is that there's no such thing as EMS
ml>> or XMS in the 32bit world... if there is, it is emulated...

DC> Well, so far I'm happy.

that's what matters ;)

ml>> should i also mention that the DOS apps are moving to the 32bit world?
ml>> not only are they moving to that world, but they are also picking up
ml>> additional baggage and bloat along the way... part of that baggage and
ml>> bloat is a GUI interface and a requirement that they run on windows or
ml>> some flavor of *nix ;)

 DC> A gui for DOS? That's sacrilegious!

haha... think back some 10+ years... DESQview/X was a GUI multitasker for
DOS and then windows 2.x came out with windows 3.x right behind it... then
OS/2 and win95, w98, w98se and interspersed in there was NT, 2K, ME, CE,
and now XP... OS/2 and the NT flavors were not, however, GUIs for DOS ;)

ml>> i still have the machine in my possession but it is now loaded with
ml>> win98se and requires sitting on the AC floor vent to operate so that
ml>> the air blowing out of the vent can cool it... until the fan/heatsink

 DC> That's a pretty big fan, isn't it?

yup but it gets the job done whilst also ensuring that the rest of the
house maintains a balanced temperature...

DC> BTW, what model laptop is it?

its an HP Pavilion XH555 which actually gets referenced as an Omnibook XE3
for most things... heck, i even had debian linux on it and didn't need the
AC vent ;) ;) everything worked except the sound card (i think) and the
software driven modem (part of the sound card) which i didn't figure would
work anyway... i ended up reverting it to win98se so that i could actually
get a few things done with it that i wasn't truely able to do with debian
and that only because i didn't have the time (not that i didn't want to
take it) to do what i had to do... besides, debian wouldn't run the win9x
based Street Finder 2000 and GPS stuff which was ultra cool checking out
for accuracy whilst driving... it was pretty accurate, too, being within a
mph or two of the speedo OB-)
