>If you had to write a story or a group of stories set on a cannon vessel,
which one would you choose?'
>Why?=20=20
Well, I've set my stories on a Nebula-class vessel, so I'm kind of partial
= to that. One reason
is that it is similar to the Galaxy-class ship so that readers will have a
= vague idea what the
interior looks like, for example, and yet it is different enough to give me=
flexibility when
setting scenes on board the ship. Of course, the Athena has some touches
n= ot found on
other Nebula-class ships like the lander and the Odonan warp drive. I
alwa= ys liked the
look of the ship. For the "Alexandria" stories, I used an
off-the-shelf En= terprise/Constitution II-
class ship simply so I would not have to develop anything about the ship
bu= t simply use
"Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise" as the reference.
>If you have invented a non-Cannon vessel, why? What do you feel this add=
s to
your story telling?
I've invented many non-canon vessels, mostly Odonan ships, but also some
Fe= deration ships,
including older vessels that would have been current during Kirk's era.
I'= ve also designed
the Atlas for the story "The Flag At the Edge of Space" and I
have in mind = a Pioneer-class
starship that is a Nebula-like variation of the Sovereign-class ship.
Howe= ver, my favourite
non-canon ship would be the Epic-class, a small ship (around 200 m in
diame= ter) with a
small crew, around 90-120, very sleek and very fast, designed for
explorati= on and boldly
going into the great unknown. I've done graphics of the top, front, side
a= nd bottom of this
ship, and sometimes feel I should seriously learn how to use a 3D modelling=
program in order
to create images of this ship.
