subject: DJGPP OPTIMIZATIONS

JK>Javier Kohen to Schonfeld. Ensign:
JK>At the stardate 19-Apr-97, Herman Schonfeld established a sub-space link
JK>to Carey Bloodworth refering to DJGPP OPTIMIZATIONS.
 HS> Lets see now, where did I say that a compiler doesn't optimize?
 HS> Does a compiler change a *256 to a <<8?
 HS> Obviously not, so why not optimize it yourself?
JK>Are you *that* sure? Because my compiler does... I tried:
JK>int main(int i)
JK>{
JK>        return i * 256;
JK>}
JK>And I got:
JK>[..]
JK>mov xx, _argc
JK>shl xx, 8
JK>[..]
A few compilers don't perform that optimization so i'm pretty sure it won't
hurt to do it by hand.
... It said "insert disk #3", but only two will fit...
